COLONEL MOHD ISMAON BIN HAJI ZAINIE
Director Force Capability and Development

Colonel Mohammad Ismaon bin Haji Zainie is the Director Force Capability Development, Ministry of Defence, a position he has held since 2 April 2018.

Colonel Mohammad Ismaon was enlisted into the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in September 1987.  In 1989, he graduated from the Officer Cadet School, New Zealand Defence Forces.  He then went to undergo his Platoon Commander Course and Combat Instructor Course in Malaysia and Australia.  On his return to Brunei he was appointed as Intake Commander Recruit Company.  Upon completion of his tour as instructor he was posted as Aide-de-camp to Commander RBAF.

He then attended his Junior Staff Course in Land Warfare Centre, Canungra, Australia and All Arms Tactics Course in Army Training Centre, Malaysia.  He graduated with psc from Singapore Command & Staff Course, SAFTI MI, Singapore in 2003.  He holds appointment as Staff Officer Grade 2 Operations and Training in the Royal Brunei Service Force and Staff Officer Grade 2 in Directorate Training and Directorate Operations, Ministry of Defence.

In 2007 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and holds appointment as Chief Instructor Training Institute RBAF, Commanding Officer Royal Brunei Malay Reserve Regiment and Staff Officer Grade 1 J5 (Planning) Joint Force Headquarters.

In 2011, Colonel Mohammad Ismaon served the International Monitoring Team Mindanao, Phillipines as RBAF Head of Contingent and return back to Brunei as the Deputy Commandant Training Institute RBAF.

In September 2013, he served as the RBAF's second Defence Attache' in Hanoi, Vietnam and in 2016 he attended the National Defence College (NDC) Dhaka, Bangladesh.  On his return from NDC Bangladesh, Col Mohammad Ismaon became the Chief of Staff of Joint Force  Headquarters and he was responsible in coordinating all the Joint Staff efforts in planning, executing and maintaining operations of RBAF and combined operations with government agencies and conducting exercise with other armed forces.

In recognition throughout his 31 years service in the RBAF and with the consent of His Majesty the Sultan And Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Colonel Mohammad Ismaon has been conferred with Pingat Indah Kerja Baik (PIKB), Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (PKLPB), Meritorious Service Medal (PJK), The Most Honorable Order of Setia Negara Brunei 4th Class (PSB) and the Most HonorableOrder of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei 3rd Class (SMB).  In recognition for his mission in Mindanao Philippines, he was awarded the Bronze Cross Medal (Heroism Involving risk of life) and Military Merit Medal (Heroic achievement in combat) by the Chief of Staff Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Colonel Mohammad Ismaon is married to Siti Nor'ain bte Dato Paduka Hj Abd Rahim and is blessed with 2 children.  He enjoys playing golf with handicap of  12, tennis, badminton and soccer.
